What is Virtual Desktop Infrastructure?
Virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) is a technology that refers to the use of virtual machines to provide and manage virtual desktops. VDI hosts desktop environments on a centralized server and deploys them to end-users on request.
Norfolk State University currently has the capacity to accommodate up to 120 remote desktops users using Omnissa (VMware) Horizon.
Norfolk State University users have two ways to access a virtual desktop environment:
Disclaimer
The user has a choice to log off or disconnect the local computer from the VDI. In either case, it is recommended to save all work before choosing an option.
- Log Out = permanent session disconnects from the VDI server.
- Disconnect = Closes the connection to the virtual machine. Omnissa (VMware) Horizon will hold you session for 15 minutes after disconnecting.
Note: It is preferred that users log out of the virtual desktop, so they won't "tie up" the virtual machine.
